"If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much."
—Jim Rohn
I am a Business Coach, based in Toronto, Ontario, and have been involved in the Leadership Development for the past 24 years. Trained in Solution Focused Coaching from Erickson College, I`m a member of the International Coach Federation, the leading global organization dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high standards, providing independent certification, and building a worldwide network of credentialed coaches with more than 11,000 members in 80 countries.
I earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and have over 15 years experience as an entrepreneur and in corporate business. That experience includes owning and operating a successful retail produce chain, successful Bistro café, and a successful vacation and residential rental company which I continue to own and operate today. My corporate experience with Dun & Bradstreet and Salesforce.com involved management, sales, and project management.
I love to travel, and have visited nearly 30 countries so far, both as a vacationer and on backpacking excursions. Having seen some of the world firsthand gives me a perspective that would be difficult to duplicate from just reading a book or watching television programs. I consider traveling to be a part of my ongoing education in being human. In 2004, I experienced the phenomenal power of coaching. That was the year I became an Ironman triathlete – someone who competes in a competitive race in which more than 2,500 participants swim 3.8 kilometres, bike 180 kilometres, and run 42.2 kilometres - all in one day.
The following quote shapes my coaching philosophy:
"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets: 'Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.'" – W.H. Murray, The Story of Everest
I remember exactly the date, time and place that I chose to be committed to completing the Ironman triathlon, and over the ensuing three years, I took my mind, body and spirit beyond what I had ever thought possible. Yes, I had a sports coach. But I also I had a business coach who helped me to gain clarity on what I really wanted in life, and helped to keep me on track with my personal and professional objectives.
My training, life experiences and background in business have led me to believe that effective coaching needs to take into account the person as a whole, and their life in context, and not just focus on isolated goals or behaviours.
A successful life coaching relationship means helping people to understand themselves and their desires better, to sort out what’s worrying them or holding them back, to identify actions that will take them forward with clarity and confidence, and to remove real or perceived barriers to their progress.
As you explore the ways in which I can help you achieve breakthroughs you may have never dreamed possible, remember the first step to achieving the life you want is desire - a desire for things to be different.
Once you have that, it`s important to take action.
